Bone density & geometry scan (pQCT)

Peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) scan provides data not only on bone density, but bone geometry, size and strength.

A pQCT scan differentiates between cortical (outer shell) and trabecular (inner spongy) bone, which are affected differently by physiological life changes.

Data are not affected by bone size, and pQCT better predicts skeletal fragility than bone density alone. Quick pQCT scans have minimal radiation.

This scan can also be used to study the interaction between muscle and bone systems.
